What an Abilitie Simulation Looks Like
Abilitie develops leaders with practice-based, immersive experiences instead of lectures. In our award-winning simulations, participants step into realistic scenarios, make decisions under pressure, and build the confidence they need for today's dynamic workplaces. Since 2015, Abilitie has delivered simulation-based leadership programs to more than 100,000 learners at 950+ clients in 50+ countries. Here is what that experience looks like from the inside.
)
Inside an Abilitie simulation
Every Abilitie simulation, whether in person or virtual, runs over multiple rounds of play with continuous discussion and reflection along the way. Our simulations are also built around three key capability focus areas: business acumen, cross-functional decision making, and team management. Programs are designed for rising leaders, experienced leaders, and executives, so the challenges on the table match where each leader is in their career.
)
How the simulation runs
Each round follows the same rhythm:
Play
Participants play an immersive, tech-based simulation in small teams.
Reflect
Teams review their performance in a faculty-led debrief.
Apply
Participants connect the concepts they learned to real-world challenges.
Across all simulations, participants make decisions, react to unexpected events, and feel the consequences of their choices in a safe, human-centered environment.
)
The Abilitie experience
The Abilitie experience blends human connection and technology. Four principles shape every program we deliver:
Simulations, not presentations
Tech-based, dynamic simulations model real-world pressures, placing learners in realistic markets where they must balance priorities and live with the results of their decisions.Cohort experiences, not e-learning
Live, team-based classes reflect real work, where collaboration is a necessity. Learners gain perspective from diverse viewpoints while navigating real trade-offs together.Facilitated debriefs, not lectures
Expert faculty use AI insights to debrief and coach, fostering peer learning and helping participants make sense of key moments.Impact, not entertainment
Transformative experiences reshape behavior and build confidence, and learners leave with strong peer networks and a shared leadership culture that lasts beyond the program.
The technology behind the experience
We use technology to enable learning, not to replace the human experience at its heart. As Luke Owings, Chief Product Officer at Abilitie, puts it: "AI shouldn't replace the human experience; it should deepen it." Here is what that looks like inside an Abilitie simulation:
)
Real-time, dynamic gameplay
Web-based technology allows seamless interactions, with every decision instantly visible to the team.
)
AI-enabled characters and conversations
Participants hold multi-person conversations with AI-driven personalities, from simulated direct reports to senior stakeholders, that evolve beyond a single decision point.
)
Personalized feedback and narrative outcomes
Learners receive real-time feedback and a story-driven outcome shaped by their own choices.
)
Live insights dashboard
Our adaptive AI analyzes participant dialogue and decisions, and facilitators use an AI-enabled dashboard to synthesize large-group input for richer debriefs.
)
Global scale
Programs are available in 8 languages, supported by a global facilitator network.
)
Ethical, transparent and secure AI
A human-first approach keeps AI transparent throughout the learner journey, and our platform protects data with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3+ in transit, meeting SOC2 Type 2 standards.
The people who make it work
Leadership isn't a solo pursuit, and learning shouldn't be either. The technology sets the stage, but the people in the room are what make an Abilitie simulation stick.
)
Expert faculty
Every program is guided by faculty from our global network of 250+ accomplished facilitators, bringing Fortune 50 leadership experience and top-tier academic credentials, with backgrounds at organizations such as GE, McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, BlackRock, Google, and NASA. They help learners process simulation outcomes, introduce frameworks, and connect what happened in the game to the decisions waiting for them back at work.
)
Cohort-based learning
Instead of looking to the facilitator for the answer, participants hash out the problem with their teammates. That social, team-based design builds bonds with people across the organization that learners might never have worked with otherwise, breaking down silos and creating a peer network that lasts well after the program ends.
)
Certified internal facilitators
For organizations that want to scale, Abilitie offers Train the Trainer certification. We've supported hundreds of facilitators across the globe, helping clients contextualize the learning to their own organization.
Flexible simulation formats that fit your organization
Our simulation-based programs are designed to serve multiple audiences, integrate into existing programs, scale easily, and provide fully turnkey leadership development solutions. Programs can be delivered in person or virtually, and they scale across time zones and languages.
Each component can stand alone or plug into a larger curriculum. As Ursula Stocker, Global Learning & Development Partner at Holcim, shared: "Abilitie doesn't have a 'one-size fits all' offering. Their ability (pun intended) to adapt to our needs in such a short amount of time highlights the flexible nature of their product design and construct."
How clients experience Abilitie simulations
Participants consistently describe our programs as among the most engaging and transformative learning experiences of their careers, and organizations see behavior change that lasts.
I find the greatest value of Abilitie is in how they offer a low-stakes environment for participants to practice critical communication and decision making skills.
Claire Reifsnyder
Senior Program Manager at Darden Executive Education & Lifelong Learning
Using both role play and AI, Influence Challenge allowed associates to practice negotiating in a controlled environment, all while maintaining high levels of engagement and fun.
Afua Akoto
Attorney at Goodwin On bringing Abilitie's Influence Challenge simulation to roughly 40 midlevel associates
It was so close to the reality that I was even shocked in a positive way on how relevant the content is for my current role.

We moved away from 'what do our leaders need to know' to 'what do our leaders need to do every day?' We stopped building around theory, models or frameworks and started building towards practice. That was where the practice-based learning and our partnership with Abilitie came in because we wanted to replicate those real-life moments and give leaders a chance to practise without the real-life consequences.
